NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A pair of second half goals against No. 14 Texas A&M secured the Vanderbilt soccer team its second top-20 shutout victory under head coach Darren Ambrose. With their first SEC home win of the season, the Commodores improved to 6-4-0 overall and 2-1-0 in SEC play. Vanderbilt now owns three victories over TAMU, with their last win against the Aggies coming in 1992.Just two seasons ago the Dores fell at home to A&M, 6-2. Under Ambrose the squad nearly defeated the then-fifth ranked team in 2015 (L,1-0), and defeated the 14th-ranked Aggies on Thursday night in front of a packed Commodore crowd. After knocking on the Aggies door and holding the majority of the possession throughout the first half, both teams headed into the final 45 minutes of play scoreless. Just three minutes into the second half, Nia Dorseys first collegiate goal propelled Vanderbilt to a 1-0 lead. The VU advantage was achieved following a detrimental foul by TAMU just outside their 18-yard box. Lydia Simmons served a beautiful free kick into TAMU territory, which Grace Jackson managed to head down and keep in play. Through the scramble inside the goal box, Dorsey found the ball and netted the first goal of the evening.Brooke Colangelo nearly gave VU an extended lead as she nailed the Aggie crossbar. In what could have been her first goal of the season, Colangelos opportunity was avenged just two minutes later. In the 81st minute, VU set up for its fifth corner of the evening. Lydia Simmons placed the ball just outside the goal box, with an Aggie on the receiving end. Texas A&M flicked the ball backwards, with the ball sailing towards Jackie Welch. In perfect position, the forwards headed the ball into the upper 90 to cement the Commodores first ranked win of the season.Down two goals and up a yellow card, the Aggie offense nearly tied the contest with back-to-back shots on goal. However, the Commodore defense was able to limit all other attempts by slowing TAMU attackers. Once their speed was limited, the Dores were then able to capitalize on offensive breakdowns and hold the Aggies off the board.Vanderbilt looks to build off Thursday nights victory on Sunday, as the team faces LSU on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 pm CT.Alen Hanson Jersey .5 million, one-year contract on Friday. Its a lot easier than you guys really believe because of the kids. They understand that they have zero control and zero to do with a lot of the things that are going on.When you get to control what you can control -- and thats everything that happens on that field, off the field in social decision, academic decisions and in this room -- thats what you should concentrate on. When you see the kids doing that, its quite a motivator for our coaches. In January, Ole Miss received a notice of allegations from the NCAA that listed 28 violations against the schools athletic department. Thirteen of those involved the football program, nine of which were alleged to have occurred under Freezes watch. Most of those nine revolved around All-America left tackle Laremy Tunsil, who on draft night admitted to taking money from an Ole Miss coach and sparked a continued invvestigation by the NCAA.ddddddddddddIn late May, Ole Miss announced that it had self-imposed the loss of 11 scholarships in football over a four-year period from 2015-18.The program is still under investigation by the NCAA and there is no timetable for a resolution, but this is an Ole Miss team that is coming off a 10-win season, has beaten?Alabama?back-to-back years, and has hopes of dethroning the Crimson Tide atop the SEC in 2016.Im more motivated than Ive ever been, Freeze said. For the young men that choose to come to this wonderful university and sacrifice to try and change the narrative around this program, were very motivated to develop them, to give them the best chance to compete in a very difficult conference and a very difficult schedule. And they deserve that.Theres a tremendous amount of motivation to remain consistent.Ole Miss, ranked No. 12 in the recently released Coaches Poll, opens the season in Orlando against No. 4 Florida State.
